Introduction

To my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being. I should be unwilling to take the life of a lamb for the sake of the human body.

I want to realize brotherhood or identity not merely with the beings called human, but I want to realize identity with all life, even with such things as crawl upon earth.

Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi.

This website is dedicated to sheep; it is a celebration of sheep, one of the most gentle of creatures on the planet.

This website however will not only focus upon sheep, it will also feature many domesticated and other animals who are abused by man, for instance those confined in zoos, used as labour and bred in factory farms in shockingly cruel conditions before ending their days in terror as they face their fate in the abattoir. We hope by setting up this website that in some small way it makes a few people think differently about our relationship with all animals as creatures with whom we share this world rather than commodities for our use and sadly our abuse.

We intend to bring attention to the plight of farm animals, creatures often overlooked and ignored, not considered in the same category as a pet dog or cat. We hope to help people realise that these animals are sentient beings who have feelings, who are aware of themselves and  other creatures, who are intelligent, and consequently capable of a whole range of emotions. Such as compassion; kindness towards one another, for example  the story of Johnny and Hope, one young pig caring for a disabled friend.

With this concept in mind we hope by way of articles, personal stories, photographs and videos to encourage people to think more deeply about the way we treat other creatures, particularly, but not exclusively, farm animals and why we should begin to treat them differently.

But why the focus on sheep?  Yes it would appear the focus is upon sheep and my husband, son and I have a special affection for this gentle and timid creature. Originally the website was created to focus on interesting facts about sheep but during research into the plight of sheep as farm animals the theme has been extended to include not only sheep but all farm and other exploited animals.  You can find a more in-depth explanation concerning the purpose of this website by clicking this link:  About "Think Differently About Sheep"

At the present time you will find sections devoted to animal Rights which discuss the shocking abuse of factory farmed animals, with sections about pigs, sheep, poultry, cattle, fish and crustaceans. Also a similar section concerning sentience in farm animals again including fish and crustaceans.

This website will also inform you about sheep with facts both interesting, profound, amusing and trivial. At the present time the website includes a history of sheep and their effect upon religion and mythology and a separate article concerning sheep in art. In time a more general history of sheep will also be included. A list is included of some of the more common breeds of sheep found in the UK along with more rare and endangered breeds and eventually breeds world wide.  In time similar general information of interest will be included about other farm animals, but for now check out the section
Farm Animal Facts for random general information about farm animals.

There will be Included from time to time various and ongoing information concerning animal rights and other issues relating to any non human animal. I prefer to use the term non human animal, although for ease of reading I will simply use the word animal or other animals when referring to non human animals.  I consider we are also animals and that all animals are equal inasmuch as they have the right to live out their lives in accordance with their natural behaviours and ways of being without negative interference, exploitation or molestation of any kind from the animal called man.

The idea of this website is to get people to think more deeply about the welfare of all animals and to appreciate animals as beings with their own purposes, as other creatures with whom we share this world, beings who are here to live their own lives in a natural way without interference.

We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace.

Albert Schweitzer, The Philosophy of Civilization

Also included in our website are fun things such as clipart photographs desktop wallpaper and in time, buttons and banners, all for free download.

This is a new website, one which will always be in the process of creation and new material will be added and existing material updated.

If you have any animal stories, funny, sad, whichever, but in keeping with the theme of this website, I would be pleased to include them. I am particularly looking for stories which show animal intelligence and sentience in farm animals but all stories are welcome about any animal.

Important please note:

I am not an animal expert of any kind just your average person who loves animals, all animals, and feels deeply about the plight of many of our fellow creatures. Neither am I a writer, or any other expert. Therefore please keep in mind that the information included in this website has been researched to the best of my ability and any misinformation is quite by accident but of course possible.
