Not to hurt our humble brethren the animals is our
first duty to
them - but to stop there is not enough: we
have a higher duty - to be of service to them whenever
they require it."

Viva!
- Vegetarians International Voice for Animals
"Eating meat;
fish and dairy causes environmental destruction, damages
human health, contributes to global hunger and inflicts
immense suffering on billions of animals across the
world. Viva! believes that the solution to all these
problems is in our own hands: the best way to stop the
destruction and the cruelty is to stop eating animals
now – go vegetarian, or better still, vegan. "

circle of compassion
A spiritual
theme for people of all faiths and none. Thought
provoking articles. Below is an extraction from
thier purpose page.
The
deep-seated cause of animal suffering.
Worldwide animal cruelty and exploitation are symptoms
of a deeply embedded, speciesist world-view that
maintains that certain human beings have the right to
commodify, exploit, enslave, and kill whomever they deem
‘less than human.’ Let us address the cause of animal
suffering holistically:
•Both physically through non-violent action, and
•Metaphysically by spiritually encircling the world with
compassion for all life. We must not underestimate how
powerful our thoughts and prayers can be.
PCA honors the prayer traditions of all religions and
encourages participants to use any form of prayer,
meditation, or focused thought that is comfortable. In
fact, Circle members who have no particular spiritual
beliefs but who believe in the proven power of focused
thought are absolutely welcome. There are no
requirements to joining the Prayer Circle for Animals
other than an interest in helping animals through prayer
or focused thought and a willingness to commit to
faithfully repeating at least once daily this Prayer for
the Animals in a heartfelt mood of thanksgiving for the
ongoing manifestation of love and peace on earth.

A website
promoting justice for animals. Includes Information
highlighting atrocities committed to animals around the
world and action you can take.
"If a great
change is to override human tyranny of animals, a great
collection of human minds will by word and deed
authorize such change. And the inevitable opposition
will appear to be opposed to the decrees of Justice
itself, rather than the fervent desires of a
compassionate multitude. Factual cause, however
shocking, can
incite desires for a legal and moral change of the moral
status of animals broadly defined.
This site is a huge amalgam of factual cause not
publicized by your newspaper."

Most Abused Animals
"Cows,
pigs, chickens, and other animals commonly exploited by
agribusiness are sentient beings—capable of awareness,
feeling, and suffering—and humans have an ethical
obligation to refrain from behaviors which inflict
suffering upon these animals. Sentient beings deserve an
environment and conditions which allow them to fulfill
their natural behaviors and achieve a state of
well-being."
