Return to Photograph Gallery: Beautiful Animals

When it comes to having a central nervous system, and the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy

Ingrid Newkirk

This webpage is part of a series that I hope will portray the fact that farm animals, just like any other animal, are beautiful creatures. Few people, even those who call themselves animal lovers, really appreciate what beautiful creatures pigs are both physically and mentally. Look at the peaceful photo of the two little pigs lying side by side, aren't they just adorable. Underneath all the mud and muck is a personality, an intelligent friendly creature much like your cat or dog, an animal who given the opportunity will interact much in same way. In fact pigs are more intelligent than dogs.

Pigs are sentient beings, look at the pictures below and try to see these creatures, who are often most despised, as the truly beautiful beings they are.

Please Note

None of the photographs below belong to this website. They all have a creative commons or similar license or are for free use but with some conditions. Please check out the links at the end for the original photographs, for licenses or conditions.  Regrettably some of the photographs were taken at zoos or farms, nonetheless despite this undesirable aspect the photographs show how delightful pigs are, even in less than optimum circumstances. This website is of course opposed to the exploitation of any animal in any circumstance, and while I appreciate and thank the owner for his or her generosity in allowing their photograph to be included in the creative commons licensing system, this website does not necessarily support the circumstances in which it was taken, nor is responsible for the content of any of the linked web sites below from where the photographs were acquired.

There is a scarcity of photographs of pigs. It has been enormously difficult to acquire photographs as few people, even those concerned with animal rights, have granted a creative commons license for their photographs.

Important

Why have I not been able to include our own photographs of pigs?

Regular visitors to the website know that most of the sheep, cattle and other photographs where taken by my husband and myself. The sad fact is that it is virtually impossible to photograph pigs as nearly all farmed pigs here in the UK are factory farmed.

Read the facts about the cruelty of factory farming pigs including confining them in windowless sheds in crates where they cannot turn round or lie down :
Factory Farming:Pigs

Always remember, a cat looks down on man, a dog looks up to man, but a pig will look man right in the eye and see his equal.

But for the sake of some little mouthful of meat, we deprive a soul of the sun and light, and of that proportion of life and time it had been born into the world to enjoy.

Not a pig I know but while looking for photographs of pigs I came across this adorable family of a mother guinea pig and her babies and just could not resist including it here.
